The
weekend of August 24-26, 71 members of the GRSP Class of 2007-08
gathered together at the Marriott Riverfront Hotel in Augusta for their
Conclave. The 44 female and 27 male students representing 22 countries
were hosted by the Rotary Club of West Augusta. After the initial
meeting and greeting, students and their guests enjoyed dinner at
Augusta State University. The students retired for the evening with
their local host families.
On Saturday morning, Jim Drake called the student group together to
begin their orientation. Dennis Still, who serves as a Magistrate for
the City of Lawrenceville, addressed the group dressed in his Judge’s
robe. Dennis ‘held court’ with the students to impress upon them the
legal issues they need to know and observe. |
While the students were
meeting in their orientation session, the Host Family Orientation
session was underway. The session was attended by the largest group of
moms and dads to attend this session in recent memory.
As in the past, the Saturday evening dinner and student show was the
highlight of the weekend. The students displayed much talent and
innovation. The co-MCs for the evening were Inger Harber from South
Africa and Nick (Nikolay) Bonev from Bulgaria. The show closed the
official activities of a most successful and fun filled weekend. After
an evening at their local host families, the students reconvened at the
Marriott for their return trip to their various schools. |
